The Anna University of technology Trichy and the Tamil Nadu AIDS control society (TANSACS) jointly organized cultural competitions at the university level under the banner of ‘Ilavattam-2010’ at M A M college Of Engineering on 5.08.2010 (Thursday).
Dr. P. Devadas Manoharan, Vice Chancellor, inaugurated the cultural meet function and urged the students to spread awareness of HIV/AIDS.
In his speech he told that“Happiness and pleasure are two different things. It is up to you to decide what you want”
More than 310 students from 28 colleges affiliated to the university were participated in the event.
Dr.M.A. Maluk Mohamed, principal of MAM college of Engineering who presided the event advocated abstinence as the best way of steering clear of HIV/AIDS. Attributing the incidence of HIV/AIDS among the youth to moral and cultural degradation, he also advised the students to practice self-discipline.
He emphasized on the role of Red Ribbon Club on promoting AIDS awareness among the college youth.
Dr. N. Leelavathi , District project manager, TANSACS, listed the objective of Ilavattam 2010. Besides providing a platform for youth to display their talents, the event lays emphasis on a responsible and healthy lifestyle. Nearly 12,000 people in Trichy district are affected with AIDS she added.
Six competitions including solo dance, group dance, street theatre, oratory, mimicry and drawing were held. Winners of the competitions would qualify for the grand finale to be held in Chennai from August 10-12.
In the street theatre competition our college participants won the first prize in the street theatre competition and they qualified for the grand finale in Chennai.
Dr. T. Sreerengaraja, Red Ribbon Club Co-ordinator, Anna University of technology Trichy welcomed the gathering. Prof. R. Ilango, Red Ribbon Club programme officer delivered the vote of thanks.
Our RRC cultural team members participated mega cultural event ILLAVATAM 2010 in NEHURU STADIAM at CHENNAI.
An HIV/AIDS awareness Programme was conducted on 12 th November 2010 for the benefit of the first year students Mrs. R.JESARIYA MARY, MSW., M.Phil., RRC District Manager,Trichy, TANSACS. gave the special lecture on “Celebrating Life”
Dr. M.A.Maluk Mohamed, Principal, MAMCE presided over the function. There were more than 350 students of MAMCE who took part in it. Prof.R.Ilango, the Programme officer of RRC , took great effort to make the Programme a grand success.
